BLACK & DECKER MTC220 12 Inch 20V Lithium Cordless 3-in-1 Trimmer Edger and Mower Unboxing

There are 3 common tools for a family house lawn: Mower, Trimmer and Edger. Mower is the most popular tool for lawn maintain. For a family backyard, a Mower seems be a MUST have tool; Trimmer is for cutting some harder or higher grasses or plants; Edger is for cutting grasses or plants on the edge which other tools can not touch to. For a normal family, a Trimmer and Edger might be the same one, a Trimmer could be an Edger, so we often see a tool is called Trimmer / Edger.

There is another feature which we need to consider for a lawn tool: How the tool is driven ? Does it use Gas ? Battery ? or Manual Power ? Some people like gas, but gas style mower normally bring more noise, then other people like battery or electric power driving, if you do not like any powered equipment, there are some models of lawn tools need manually driving.

Black & Decker provides a lawn tool which is called 3 in 1 of Trimmer Edger and Mower, sounds great: BLACK & DECKER MTC220 12 Inch 20V Lithium Cordless 3-in-1 Trimmer Edger and Mower. It looked too light to work for a backyard work. But we really have used it to finish mowing a 28’ x 30’ backyard lawn with its two batteries (It came with two 20v Lithium batteries in package already. ), and it worked well.
Let’s show unboxing info for this tool.

When we opened the box, the first thing was a power adapter, which was for charging batteries, 120v input and 8~20v output.

And then we saw a base component with 4 wheels, which was made of plastic, but the quality is good. This base component is just for converting trimmer to a “mower”.

Two batteries: Lithium battery 20 V, 2.0 Ah. Thanks Black & Decker can provide two batteries, for the cordless tool, one battery is often not enough, and, at least we can use 2 batteries to save charging time, we do not need to wait more time when working.

The main part – Black & Decker Trimmer was packaged like this. The black part on the middle of handle is for adjust length and direction, which is for converting between trimmer and edger:

The following image shows all content: A adjustable Trimmer / Edgier with Spool, two batteries, Base, Power Adapter, Manual, Auxiliary Handle, Guard.

We have to be aware of how to install Guard onto the Trimmer, like the image below, set situation like this (but please loose the screw first, on the image we did not loose it because we took the picture for showing how to do) and push the Guard (slide it), until we hear it “snap” into right place, and then we use the screw to make the assembling tightly.

We were interested in how to convert the Trimmer to a mower, actually it is easy and convenient. Just plugin the Trimmer on the Base, but please note we have to let the metal wire circle go under the base cover, then just slightly push down, a Trimmer becomes to a Mower right away!

When we want to uninstall the Trimmer from Base, we just press the holder on the Base:

The following is assembled 3-in-1 Trimmer / Edger / Mower. For a 28’ x 28‘ lawn land, this tool is OK. But we know it is actually not a real mower if you are really care a mower, because it uses string to cut grasses like a trimmer. But if you do not have heavy lawn work, and you do not need professional lawn mowing, this 3-in-1 tool is enough for you.

We bought the 3-in-1 Trimmer / Edger and Mower from Amazon Canada, but of course you can buy any local store as long as it is available in stores. For the price, we know a single Trimmer’s price might be around $100 Canadian Dollars, if you are good luck you will meet very good price on Amazon website, this 3-in-1 tool might be lower than $100.
